Tecumseh, Michigan – The City of Tecumseh’s Parks and Recreation Department was the recipient of a $16,320 grant award administered by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The grant is funded through the United State Department of Agriculture Forest Services Urban and Community Forestry grant program.

The grant funds will cover the cost of hiring a temporary tree maintenance & watering staff member for the newly planted trees throughout the City of Tecumseh in partnership with ReTree Tecumseh. It is one of 18 tree-related projects around the state that will help manage trees and forests in urban and community areas.

“This grant will allow the city to hire a part-time, seasonal employee for 2 years,” said Parks and Recreation Director Sarah Gilmore. “Our trees are wonderful assets that help make Tecumseh a beautiful and welcoming place.”

The City of Tecumseh is home to over 350 acres of parkland brimming with green space, wildlife, waterways, and trails. From youth and adult sports leagues to fitness classes, pickleball to nature-based programming, the City of Tecumseh offers many different recreational opportunities.
