The City Clerk administers elections, registers voters, serves as clerk to City Council and is the official record keeper for the City.

City Records

The City Clerk's office is responsible for maintenance of City records, which includes all recorded actions of the City Council as well as deeds, easements, contracts and other general records, including Brookside Cemetery, which is owned and managed by the City. For Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission or Zoning Board of Appeals information, contact Development Services Department Director Brad Raymond at 424-6548. Elections and Voter Registration

The City Clerk's Office conducts all City, State and Federal Elections, as well as elections for Tecumseh Public Schools and the Tecumseh District Library. Voter registration records are maintained by the Clerk's Office using the state-wide Qualified Voter File. For voter registration and absentee ballots, contact Mary Feight at 424-6541.

The City Clerk is always looking for qualified voters registered in Lenawee County to serve as Election Inspectors. Interested persons ages 16 and older should contact Mary Feight at 424-6541 to obtain an application.

Local City officials elected by popular vote are the Mayor and Council Members. These positions are non-partisan and nominated by petition. Residents interested in running for elected office should contact Mary Feight at 424-6541 to obtain a petition and filing deadline information. In accordance with the City Charter, petition availability is advertised in the Tecumseh Herald via display ad, prior to each election.

The seven (7) member City Council is comprised of the Mayor and six Council Members, who serve for two (2) year terms each. The Mayor and three (3) Council Members are elected in November each even numbered year, while three (3) Council Members are elected every November in odd numbered years.

New Photo ID Requirement to Vote:

 Due to recent court ruling, all Michigan voters must show current photo identification before voting at the polls.  Voters can satisfy the picture identification requirement by showing a current Michigan driver's license or personal identification card.  A voter who is unable to show picture identification can vote after signing an affidavit attesting that he or she is not in possession of picture identification.

Absent Voter Applications

Michigan law require that a new application be completed for each election for which an absentt ballot is needed.  To request ab Application for Absent Voters Ballot, visit the City Clerk's Office at City Hall, 309 E. Chicago Blvd. or contact the City Cerk's office at (517)424-6541.  Please be sure to sign and print your full name and address on the top and bottom sections of the application form.

The City Clerk's Office is open on the Saturday prior to Election Day to accept and process Absent Voter Ballot Applications.           The absentee ballots must be voted on-site; they cannot leave the Municipal Building per State Election Law.

All Absent Voter Ballots must be returned to the City Clerk's Office by 8 p.m. on Election night in order to be counted.

 

Licenses and Permits Issued by the Clerk's Office

Garage Sale permits, Temporary and Permanent Business Licenses, Solicitor's Licenses (for door to door sales), Non Profit Soliciting Licenses, Going Out of Business Licenses, Street Opening Permits and Water and Sewer Tap Permits can be obtained through the City Clerk's Office. Stop in the Clerk's Office or you may call 424-6541 or 424-6545 for requirements and costs.
