Community Programs

The Tecumseh Police Department offers many programs for children and adults.

We offer Department tours, safety talks and bike safety courses for your civic or Scout group.  Simply call the department to make arrangements.  We will come to your location.  Programs offered include "Eddie Eagle" gun safety, "The Safe Side" stranger safety, Bike Rodeos, general safety talks, visits with an officer, and one of the kids favorites seeing the Patrol Car.

The Police Department offers a Citizen's Academy every five years for adults wanting to learn more about Law Enforcement.  Topics include officer responsibilities, equipment, law, evidence, the courts, and include many guest speakers.  Check back for details.

Officer Hissong is also a Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselor for Traffic Safety and Crime Prevention Merit Badges.  She will also work with Cub Scouts and Girls Scouts for badge requirements.  Call to set up a meeting.

Bike Safety:

A variety of adult and children's bike helmets are available for sale at the department for less than $10.00.  Helmets are certified.  Everyone should wear a helmet when riding.

Riders are required to follow all the rules of a motor vehicle when on the road.  That includes riding on the right, obeying all traffic control devices, and signaling turns. Pamphlets are available in the Department lobby with information.

Helpful Publications:

The department has a variety of brochures and pamphlets available on such topics as:  "Talking to Your Kids About Drugs", "How to Wear a Bike Helmet Properly", Identity Theft, Domestic Violence, Bike Safety, Pedestrian Safety, Alcohol and more.  Visit the Police Department and pick up some free information.
