Dan was born & grew up in Alpena, a small northeastern Michigan community. He went to school at Miami University of Ohio, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Dan then returned to Michigan, and took a job as a Teaching Assistant at Central Michigan University. His first full-time professional engagement was in private environmental consulting where he spent 2 years as a field inspector on major construction projects in Iowa and Alabama.
Dan’s government career started at the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments (TMACOG), where he worked with northwest Ohio and Monroe County communities on regional land use and water quality concerns. He then took a position with Van Buren Township in Wayne County for an 8 year tenure, where he was ultimately promoted to Director of Planning and Economic Development. During this time, Dan returned to school to complete his Masters in Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in Land Planning and Development Management at Eastern Michigan University.
Dan was appointed the Director of Economic and Community Development for the City of Monroe in January of 2011 where he served for 5-years, until starting as City Manager in Tecumseh in December of 2015. He has credentials from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and actively participates in the Michigan Association of Planning and Michigan Economic Developers Association.
Dan was married to his wife Michelle in 2000 and has two children- son Joshua and daughter Lauren.
