The City of Tecumseh recently announced the installation of a prescription Med Box at the Tecumseh Police Department.  The purpose of the Med Box is to allow individuals to drop off certain expired or unused medications in a safe manner.  The goal of the Med Box is to reduce access to medications that are known to be abused.  Proper disposal of medications also helps to eliminate them from entering into our water stream.

Individuals wanting to drop off their medications can do so between the hours of 8 am to 12 am daily at the Tecumseh Police Department.  The following medications CAN be dropped off in their original packaging:

Expired and unused medications

Over-the-counter medications

Medication samples

Pet medications

Medicated ointments/lotions/drops

Unopened epi-pens

The following items CANNOT be dropped off:

Illegal drugs

IV bags

Blood or infectious waste

Hydrogen peroxide

Business waste

Empty containers

Personal care products

Liquid medications

Individuals wanting to drop off prescriptions are asked to check in with the dispatcher on duty prior to dropping the drugs in the box. Medications must be dropped off in their original containers. You may cross off your name or other personal information, however, please DO NOT cross off the name of the medication.

The Med Box is sponsored by the Tecumseh Police Department, Tecumseh Coalition for Youth, Tecumseh Public Schools and ProMedica Herrick Medical Center.
